Sahastra Taal Yatra

Sahastra Taal Yatra

Overview:

Sahastra Taal also called Darshniya Taal which is a wide valley at height of 16,500 ft. asl and situated between Bhagirathi valley in the west and Bhilangana valley in the east. From Mahasar and Maharani Taal and also from Kush Kalyan Bugyal (Meadow), a high ridge continues towards north and several high altitude small and medium lakes are found on both side of the ridge. From Sahastra Tal, there is a way to go to Khatling Glacier, from where the Bhilangana River originates. This less frequented trail offers grazing pastures, lush green alpine meadows (Bugyal), high Himalayan ranges peaks including Bandarpunch, Black Peak / Kalanag, Jaonli, Srikanth, Draupadi Ka Danda along with Gangotri range. Another major highlight is the high altitude lakes of varying size and depth. Walking on the grasslands like Kush Kalyan and Kyarki Bugyal is a pleasure and fun for any trekker. The panorama of the Garhwal and Kumaon Range is very delightful and relaxing. Do not forget to see the beautiful sunrise and sunset.

Some lakes are still and whose darshan is still a privilege for us. Sahastra Tal is said to be the largest and deepest lake of Garhwal, Uttarakhand.

Sahastra Taal is still an untouched and undiscovered place for outdoor travelers. But the local people do visit here once for the months of June and July for centuries.
