Dodital is a freshwater lake nestled admist high mountains in Uttarakhand, India. According to one of the popular legends Lord Ganesha chose this place as his abode. There is a temple devoted to Lord Ganesha here. Another name for this lake is ‘Dhundital’ meaning Ganesh ka tal or Lake of Ganesha. Dodital is named after the rare Himalayan Trouts known as Dodi in local language.

Dodital is a freshwater lake in Uttarakhand, India, situated at a height of 3,024 meters (9,921 ft). Dodital is arguably one of the most beautiful high altitude lake in north India. To reach Dodital, one may reach Uttarkashi to Sangamchatti till Aghoda village by road which is total 22 km and then treks begins from Aghoda village alongside the river.
History & recent tales:
According to mythology this is the place where Lord Ganesha s/o Lord Shiv was born. Dodital is named after the rare Himalayan Trout Fish known as Dodi in local language.
Dodital is one of the most beautiful trek in Uttarkashi. This place is a part of “Lord Ganesha” life story. Where they have a lot of mythological stories. There is also a place on the way here “Maji”, this is a well-lit place where villagers keep their cows and buffaloes in the rainy season. According to the history, Kunti Mata used to cultivate paddy in Dayara Bugyal & the place called by the name “Kunti Ki Seri”. Here is a Bakriya top place where is a Vakratunda cave where Lord Ganesha neck was cut by Lord Shiva in history.
Now a road up to 6 km has been made, which goes to Aghoda village. Earlier vehicles used to go from Uttarkashi to Sangamchatti only. Then from there one had to trek 6 km till Aghoda village. It’s been almost 5 years since it was made. Earlier this entire trek used to be 27 km. But now after the construction of 6 km road, this trek route is 21 km. The many delights of the Dodital trek and Darwa Pass include a visit Sangamchatti, a quaint village market place and getting a whiff of Gujar settlement. Make way along meadows dusted with snow, laced with pine trees and witness the awe-inspiring Himalayas. Also, if you wish, enjoy the ascend to Dodital route through mixed forests.

Short Itinerary
Day 1:- Dehradun / Rishikesh – Aghoda village – Bebra village
- Altitude: 3,800 feet. to 7,381 feet
- 165 km drive and 2 km trek (approx. 08 hours).
- The journey gives you the view of some beautiful area’s like Moriyana top & Chinyalisaur.
- The trail passes through the open till Bebra village from Aghoda village & then comes to forest area.

Day 2: Bebra village – Manjhi – Dodital
- Breakfast
- Altitude: 9,921 feet.
- 14 km trek (approx. 6 hours).
- Trail start with the dense forest and some open areas with source of water.
- Packed lunch & dinner.
- Stay in dome tents or in huts.
Day 3: Dodital – Darwa Paas Top – Dodital
- Breakfast
- Altitude- 13,615 ft.
- Distance is 5 km & Trekking time approx. 2-3 hour
- Today’s climb will be a little difficult, then after crossing it, we will reach the Bugyal of the Darwa Top.
- Later we will have to take the return from the Darwa Top before 2 o’clock, due to the cold wind blowing there.

Day 4: Dodital – Aghoda village – Uttarkashi

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1:- Dehradun / Rishikesh – Agoda village – Bebra (165 km drive and 2 km trek / approx 8 hrs)
On arrival at Agoda village, then we will trek to Bebra which is at the height of 7,381 ft. Bebra is the small area where villagers have their own old huts, through which the trail for Dodital. Bebra is a peaceful place beside a small stream embedded in the depth of the Himalayas. Later check into the guest house or campsite there. Later in the evening enjoy the delicious dinner and overnight stay in guest house or campsite.
Day 2:- Bebra – Dodital Temple (14 km Trek / approx 6 hrs)
Early in the morning after breakfast & with packed lunch get ready for the Dodital Temple Trek which is a freshwater lake in Uttarakhand, India, situated at a height of 3,024 meters (9,921 ft). Dodital is arguably one of the most beautiful high altitude lake in north India. Dinner and overnight stay at camps or in homestay.
Day 3:- Dodital Temple sightseeing – Darwa Pass Top – Dodital campsite (5 km trek)
Early in the morning after breakfast & with packed lunch get ready for the Darwa Pass Top trek which is 5 km steep climb trek ahead and located at height of 13,615 ft asl and the stunning view of Bandar punch Peak and Swargarohini range is immaculate and most adorable. Later before sunset we have to start back down trek to Dodital base campsite. Dinner and overnight stay at camps or in homestay.
Day 4:- Dodital – Aghoda village – Uttarkashi (14 km down trek & 22 km drive)
Early in the morning after breakfast & with packed lunch get ready to go back down to Bebra, then Uttarkashi. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel or in homestay.
Day 5:- Uttarkashi – Dehradun / Rishikesh (143 km drive / approx. 6 hrs.)
Good morning to Last day of Trip !!
Have Breakfast, later travel back to Dehradun / Rishikesh with happy memories of Dodital tour & trek.
