Lakes situated in the lap of many species of trees like Rais, Mundar, Deodar, Runes etc. In the lap of the Himalayas, is in keeping with the 1,300 year old historical saga. Secondly, According to Jansruti, whose story is as follows that 300 years ago there used to be a king named Ghumrana Shah in Maikot – Kemar Patti, Tehri district. His son was Umrana Shah.

Who had no child. He did penance for Sheshnag to have a son. Sheshnag was pleased with the austerity of Phoolmala, the wife of Umrana Shah. Then appeared in human form and said that I will take birth in your house as a snake.

As a result, Sheshnag was born as two serpents from the womb of the Phoolmala. Which sometimes transformed into a human form and sometimes into a snake. The name of the snake was Mahasar and the name of the snake was Maheshwari. So after some time, due to the ongoing diplomacy among the royal family, he left the royal family. Mahasar and Maharani Taal was made the abode of Nagraj and Nagrani siblings. Where these two beautiful lakes are located over the Himalaya at the present time.

People from seven villages of Boodhakedar have been worshiping them for years. His temple and huge hammock are still present in Vishan village at Boodhakedar Nath area, on the banks of Bal Ganga. Every year, there is a journey from here to Mahasar and Maharani Taal in the month of August called Ganga Dussehra.

These serpents descended in human form and committed to the ancestors of the Bhatt dynasty. That you will worship in the temple as per our tradition forever. Since then the people of Bhatt caste have been continuously worshiping in the temple of Mahasar and Maharani Taal. Bhatt caste still has a copperplate of nag pooja is safe, given by “Maharaja Sudarshan Shah”. People of Rana caste in Bal Ganga region call themselves Nagvanshi Rana.
